Monetisation and Sustainability in 6G
Friday, 6 June 2025, 11:00 – 12:30, room Earth Hall B (level 2)
Organizer
- Marcin Ratkiewicz (Orange, PL)
Motivation and Background
Monetisation and Europe’s digital sovereignty are critical pillars for the successful deployment of 6G. As we approach the next generation of telecommunications, it is imperative to address how e.g. operators, as the backbone of this ecosystem, can capture a fair share of the value. What will make 6G different from its predecessors? A sustainable business model must be established – one that ensures profitability for operators, benefits for customers, and a balanced ecosystem where all stakeholders thrive.
Europe’s digital sovereignty and defence-ready infrastructure are equally vital in the context of growing global crises and security threats. The dual-use potential of 6G infrastructure, combining civilian and defence applications, must be explored to ensure resilience, coverage, and access to digital services. How can 6G contribute to Europe’s strategic autonomy while addressing societal needs?
Sustainability remains a key consideration, encompassing environmental, economic, and societal dimensions. Energy efficiency, modularity, and greener networks must align with profitability and capacity expansion. Beyond the hype, 6G must deliver tangible outcomes – real value for customers, measurable benefits for society, and alignment with sustainability goals.
Questions
- How can 6G ensure Europe’s digital sovereignty while equipping the continent with dual-use, defence-ready infrastructure?
- What will make 6G worth it – for operators, customers, and the broader ecosystem?
- How can operators monetise 6G effectively and secure a fair share of the value in this ecosystem?
- Why should telco operators continue to invest heavily in 6G infrastructure despite stagnant financial returns in the sector?
- How can 6G balance sustainability goals with the need for profitability, network resilience, and capacity expansion?
