Date, hour and room to be defined

Session Chair:
  • Ana Garcia Armada (Univ. Carlos III de Madrid, ES)
  • Victor P Gil Jimenez (Univ. Carlos III de Madrid, ES)

The evolution of mobile communication networks is poised to enter a new era with the development of 6G, where new technologies are required to meet the ever-growing demands for higher data rates, ultra-low latency, and sustainable energy consumption. As we transition from 5G to 6G, innovations in multiple areas such as ultra-massive MIMO, intelligent sensing, and advanced positioning techniques will be critical in shaping the next-generation mobile landscape.
The Doctoral Network MiFuture envisions a leap forward in MIMO technology by introducing Ultra-Massive MIMO (UmMIMO) for cell-free heterogeneous networks. This groundbreaking approach promises to address the challenges of future communication networks by enabling unprecedented throughput, energy efficiency, and positioning accuracy. The integration of UmMIMO in 6G will pave the way for seamless interaction between the physical and digital worlds, ensuring high-speed connectivity while optimizing energy usage and network complexity.
In parallel, the Doctoral Network ISAC-NEWTON and ENCORE6G project explore the synergies between intelligent sensing and communication, focusing on the development of advanced metasurface-based antennas, machine learning (ML)-enabled sensing algorithms, and novel resource allocation methods. ISAC-NEWTON aims to enhance the reliability and coverage of mobile networks, making them more adaptive to diverse real-world applications, from autonomous vehicles to smart cities while ENCORE6G project promote the collaboration in research among top rate universities in the field of Integrated Sensing and Communications. Additionally, the projects tackle the need for secure, low-latency communications through the design of zero-trust security models.
PASSIONATE project complements these approaches, aiming to unlock ML for wireless by customizing and accounting-by-design the unique properties (“physics-based”) of the networks they are applied to. Physics-based ML is, in addition, the suitable approach to ensure the scalability, generalization, reliability, and user trust of ML, enabling ML solutions that are technically robust and possibly explainable-by-design.
Together, MiFuture, ISAC-NEWTON and, PASSIONATE and ENCORE6G represent a multidisciplinary and collaborative effort to drive the technological advancements needed for the 6G era. Their collaborative research on MIMO and intelligent sensing will lay the foundation for creating highly efficient, secure, and sustainable mobile networks. This session will explore the innovative contributions of the four projects and their potential to transform mobile communication systems in the near future.

Programme

The structure of the session is organized starting with a panel composed by 1-2 members of each project where they discuss their vision about future wireless networks. Then, the presentation of several more specific works follows (15 minutes + 5 minutes questions each). Full Papers (5 pages), made from a selection of papers submitted from the researchers of the four projects and reviewed by the Special Session organizers. These papers will be part of the Conference Proceedings, but they will not be submitted to IEEE Xplore.
