Special Session 5: Global 6G Testbed Collaboration for Open, Intelligent and Interoperable Innovation

Wednesday, 3 June 2026, 17:00-18:30, room Sala 2 (first floor)

Session chair:
  • Pang-An Ting (Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), TW)

The evolution toward 6G requires not only breakthrough technological advancements but also large-scale validation through globally coordinated platforms. Emerging paradigms such as AI-RAN, Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) are reshaping future network architectures; however, their integration into real-world environments remains a critical challenge.
This Special Session is motivated by the need to bridge the gap between advanced research and practical deployment through collaborative 6G trial networks. It brings together leading international initiatives and organizations, including the EU’s SNS JU projects (6G-SANDBOX and 6G-SENSES), the UK’s JOINER and TITAN, the Netherlands’ TNO, and Taiwan’s 6G-FORMOSA, to explore modular system architectures and cross-border interoperability.
In addition, the session highlights recent 6G R&D milestones from major Taiwanese industry players, such as MediaTek, TMYTEK, and Launchip, with a particular focus on NTN and advanced antenna technologies. By linking industrial innovation with global testbed platforms, the session emphasizes the synergy between experimental validation and commercial readiness.
By integrating academia, industry, and research infrastructures, this session aims to provide insights into how globally coordinated efforts are shaping 6G system design and accelerating standardization.
