Terahertz Frequency Bands and Integrated Sensing and Communication : key enablers for 6G use cases
Thursday, 9 June 2022, 10:30-12:00, Room A303
Session Chair:
- Richard Stirling Gallacher (Huawei Technologies, DE)
- Riccardo Trivisonno (Huawei Technologies, DE)
A number of radio technologies are currently considered as potential key enablers for 6G communications systems. Among those, a combination of Terahertz (THz) frequency bands and Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technologies promise to enable arguably the most disruptive 6G use cases, ranging from radio astronomy and earth remote sensing services, to joint radar and communications for vehicles, immersive telepresence, and interactive and cooperative robotics, just to name a few. Nevertheless, significant technical challenges still remain to be addressed in order to efficiently enable these use cases. This special session aims at bringing together world class experts from academia and industry to discuss the latest advances in THz and ISAC technologies, to identify the key gaps, and, and discuss suitable fields of application in near and longer term.
Programme
The Special Session will articulate along the following agenda:
- Introduction – Moderator (10min)
- THz Frequency Bands – Recent advances – Academic keynote, Dr. Thomas Merkle (Fraunhofer IIS) (15min)
- ISAC – Recent Advances – Academic keynote, Prof. Andrea Girogetti (CNIT) (15min)
- THz and ISAC – Vertical applications – Industrial keynote; Dr. Andreas Müller (BOSCH) (15min)
- THz and ISAC – proof of concept – Recorded Video (5min)
- Panel Discussion – Expectations, Challenges and Way forward – Moderator with three speakers (30min)
