Research on 6G: what’s in EU member States?

Date, hour and room to be defined
Organisers:
  • Slawomir Stanczak (Technical Univ. of Berlin, Fraunhofer Inst., DE)
  • Umberto Spagnolini (Politecnico di Milano, IT)

Motivation and Background

Several European countries have initiated substantial national projects, amassing nearly 2.5 billion Euro, with significant investments directed towards advancing industrial leadership in 5G and 6G networks. Concurrently, the Horizon Europe Smart Network and Services (SNS) program secured 900 MEuro of European funding from 2021 to 2027, matched by industry contributions. While these national initiatives hold the potential to significantly strengthen European research and industry, their independent progress highlights the need for a common ground for discussion and comparison. The workshop aims to establish a platform for exchanging scientific and industrial goals, fostering synergies within Europe. This dual purpose Workshop will showcase of large national initiatives in EU Member States and facilitate the identification of synergies among themselves and with the SNS program. During the workshop, principal investigators from selected National initiatives will outline their program vision, specialized technical presentations will share preliminary results, highlighting advancements in innovation toward 6G stemming from both academic and industrial research. Distinguished external researchers will engage in discussions about recent findings and ongoing trends in the realm of 6G. The workshop is structured to provide an overview of the initiative, seeking synergies while covering both fundamental and practical research aspects. Invited speakers will contribute to ensure a comprehensive coverage of the subject.
