This title, awarded each year by the European Union, is recognition of Grenoble&#8217;s environmental example.<\/em><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Launched in 2008 by the European Commission with the slogan &#8220;Green cities &#8211; fit for life&#8221;, or &#8220;Green cities &#8211; soft to live&#8221;, the\u00a0<strong>title of Green Capital is awarded to cities that meet ambitious objectives in terms of the environment, sustainable development and can act as a model.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The title lasts for a year during which Europe makes the elected territory an ambassador territory at national and European level. Elected Green Capital 2022, Grenoble convinced the European Commission thanks in particular to the following assets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>reduction of fine particles in the air by 25%<\/strong>\u00a0between 2004 and 2015<\/li>\n<li>generalization of 30km \/ h and\u00a0<strong>the largest Low Emission Zone (ZFE) in France<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>second city in France for commuting by bicycle<\/strong>\u00a0and 320 km of cycle routes<\/li>\n<li>school canteens half\u00a0<strong>supplied with organic and \/ or local products<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>zero phytosanitary products<\/strong>\u00a0for the City&#8217;s green spaces for 10 years and before everyone else<\/li>\n<li>in 2022 Grenoble will be supplied with\u00a0<strong>100% green electricity,<\/strong>\u00a00% carbon and 0% nuclear power<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The European Commission has ranked Grenoble in 1st or 2nd position out of 11 of the 12 indicators.
